The project proposes the transformation of Zahur Hawkers’ Market at Fairy’s Hill, Chittagong, into the city’s first integrated public-commercial district under Chittagong City Corporation. Spanning 9 acres, the redevelopment aims to merge community life, local commerce, and sustainable design into an organized, inclusive, and future-resilient urban hub. The design modernizes the traditional, vibrant market while preserving its cultural essence. It introduces a modular, context-responsive layout with ergonomically designed shop units, wide internal roads, rickshaw stands, and efficient zoning based on user behavior. A second floor connected by pedestrian bridges expands commercial space and enhances circulation and shading. Key public facilities include a food court, mosque, convertible open ground for community events, children’s playground, seating plazas, hygienic public toilets, a baby care zone, goods storage, and a market office for management Sustainability drives the proposal through passive design, soakable green courtyards, tree-lined walkways, rainwater absorption zones, and fire-resistant modular structures. Overall, the project redefines Zahur Market as a vibrant, people-centered urban destination that balances tradition, commerce, and environmental responsibility.
