Dhaka, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, faces a critical challenge as its population continues to grow while usable land rapidly diminishes. As urban development engulfs nearly every open plot, spaces for leisure and community life are disappearing, leaving the city physically expansive yet constrained at the human scale. This project reimagines the future of recreation in such dense contexts by proposing vertical recreational towers; multi-level structures that integrate sports, greenery, and social interaction within compact footprints. Located in Gulshan, one of Dhaka’s most developed areas, the proposal explores how vertical growth can accommodate public activities once confined to open fields and parks. Each level of the tower serves a unique function, from indoor courts and fitness zones to terraces and gathering spaces, connected through circulation that fosters movement and interaction. Beyond architecture, the concept promotes a cultural shift embracing verticality not only for living and working but also for recreation and well-being. By redefining the idea of “open space,” the project envisions a city that grows upward yet lives better, offering Dhaka a sustainable model for balance, connection, and urban vitality.
